Image to favicon

Convert an image or picture to favicon ICO

A favicon does not need to begin as a file named “favicon”. A logo export, product mark, illustration or simple picture can be a useful source if it stays recognizable when reduced.

Favicoo accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG and WebP. Upload one image, choose the dimensions and generate. The browser resizes the artwork and encodes separate ICO files locally, without uploading your original to a conversion endpoint. The previews help you inspect the actual small-size result before downloading.

For the best result, choose a clear subject and avoid artwork with tiny text or many details. Favicoo fits the complete image into a square canvas while preserving its aspect ratio, so a non-square picture is not stretched or unexpectedly cropped. Any extra canvas area remains transparent when the source/output supports transparency.

Pick the right source

Which image format should you use?

PNG

Best for many logos and icons. PNG can preserve transparency and crisp edges, making it flexible for artwork shown on different browser backgrounds. Open the PNG to favicon guide.

JPG / JPEG

Useful for opaque pictures and photographs. The source background remains visible because JPEG does not support transparency. Open the JPG to favicon guide.

WebP

A supported modern web image format that may be opaque or transparent. Favicoo converts it to separate ICO files just like the other accepted inputs.

Make a favicon in three steps

1

Choose a recognizable image

Start with a square mark if possible. If you have a full horizontal logo, consider creating a compact symbol or monogram for small browser tabs.

2

Select the sizes you need

16 × 16 and 32 × 32 are common small dimensions. Add 48 × 48 and 64 × 64 for larger contexts; Google recommends using a favicon larger than 48 × 48 for good display across search surfaces.

3

Download each result

Every selected dimension has a square preview and its own ICO download button. The ZIP archive is useful when you want to keep all generated icons together.

Image to favicon FAQ

Questions about converting pictures to favicons

Can I convert a picture to favicon.ico?

Yes. Upload a supported image, choose the icon dimensions and generate the ICO files. A simple crop or symbol usually stays clearer than a detailed photograph at tiny dimensions.

Can I convert a favicon to ICO?

If by that you mean turning your logo or icon artwork into an ICO file, yes — upload the source image here. If you already have a file ending in .ico, it is already in ICO format; this tool currently accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG and WebP as source images.

What if I need the favicon already used by a website?

You may be able to open the site's /favicon.ico path or find its icon URL in the page's <head>. Read how to find a favicon on an existing website.

Does the image get uploaded?

The image conversion happens in your browser. The chosen source files are not sent to a Favicoo conversion server.
