JPG to ICO

Turn a JPG or JPEG into a website favicon

Use this JPG to favicon converter when your source image is saved as JPEG and you need ICO files for a website or web project.

Choose a JPG or JPEG in the console, select output dimensions and generate. Favicoo performs the conversion locally in the browser and creates a separate ICO file for every selected size. This makes it easy to choose which file to install and to keep the rest in a ZIP archive.

One important difference from PNG: JPEG does not support alpha transparency. Any white, coloured or photographic background already present in the JPG remains part of the favicon. Conversion changes the dimensions and file format; it does not automatically remove a background.

Before converting

Choose a JPG that works at favicon size

Keep the focal point clear

Use a crop where the logo, object or face is easy to identify. A detailed photograph may look good at full size but turn into an indistinct block at 16 × 16.

Understand the background

Because JPG is opaque, the background gets scaled along with the subject. For a logo that should sit on different browser backgrounds, use a transparent PNG or transparent WebP instead.

Avoid stretching

Favicoo fits the complete source image in a square canvas, preserving the aspect ratio. A landscape or portrait source can have empty margins in the square favicon; it is not forcibly stretched into a square.

How to convert

JPG to favicon in three steps

1

Add your JPG or JPEG

Choose a file, drag and drop it or paste an image where your browser supports clipboard image data.

2

Select output dimensions

Choose 16 × 16 and 32 × 32 for compact contexts, and include 48 × 48 or 64 × 64 when you need a larger icon. Verify any additional requirements from your platform.

3

Preview, download or ZIP

Inspect the square previews. Download each ICO directly or collect your selected results into one archive.

JPG to favicon FAQ

Common JPG to ICO questions

Can a JPG favicon have a transparent background?

No. JPG/JPEG has no transparency channel. Use a PNG or transparent WebP source if transparent edges are needed.

Does Favicoo crop my landscape JPG?

No, it fits the whole image into a square canvas and preserves the aspect ratio. This avoids unexpected cropping but may leave margins around a wide or tall image.

Can I make a favicon from a JPEG logo?

Yes. If the logo has a solid background, a JPEG can work. If you need transparency or very crisp logo edges, a PNG source usually gives you more flexibility.

How do I install the downloaded ICO?

Upload the chosen file to your public site path and add a rel="icon" link in your page head. The installation and testing guide covers the steps.
